What can you expect with cannabis coaching?

Let’s start with the very basics. You can always expect empathy, knowledge, privacy, and a good sense of humor.

As for the actual coaching experience, during and/or before your scheduled session(s), you will answer questions related to your current health and wellness goals, prior experience with cannabis, and your current level of interest in and understanding of cannabis. Your coach will utilize this information to create a highly personalized guide just for you. Depending on your needs, this may include strain and terpene recommendations, guided virtual shopping trips, specialized handouts and resources, nudges toward exciting new research, and journal access and support. It's not a one-size-fits-all model because neither are you.

Throughout your coaching journey, you will learn about the values of cannabis, the latest science to support it, and its potential benefits for you individually. During your session, you and your coach will determine the level of ongoing support you need to achieve your goals and what role your coach can continue to play. Is it continued email support? Journal support? Do you want a dispensary buddy? We will make it work for you, based on you.

All sessions will be via video chat, meaning real pants optional (YAY!), unless it is otherwise requested and agreed upon. If you’re looking for coaching for a group or team, reach out and we’ll chat specifics.

How is a cannabis coach different than a cannabis doctor?

While a cannabis doctor is authorized to recommend medical cannabis and that's certainly a hero in my book, many cannabis doctors lack the necessary time and specified training to provide you with the support you really need. Translation: Your appointment is going to last about ten minutes. Appointments are often so short and impersonal that patients are left confused about what to do next. A cannabis coach can help guide you with all the next steps including dosing suggestions, delivery methods, terpenes and strains, and can remain an ongoing resource as you begin titration.  A cannabis coach certainly can help you find a medical cannabis doctor but they cannot, however, prescribe or recommend medical cannabis, nor can they diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure illness.

How is a cannabis coach different than a budtender?

While a coach and a budtender may have some overlapping cannabis knowledge, your relationship with your budtender is likely to be more transactional, whereas a coaching relationship is much more personal and customized. A coach will provide you with ongoing support, motivation, and encouragement as you begin to work cannabis into your routine.

What are some questions often asked during a coaching session?

What is CBD v THC. What is hemp and why can I buy CBD at a gas station? Is the CBD I’m currently taking good? What are the risks here? How often should I take this? How much should I take? How do I know if it’s working? What are the side effects and what should I expect during the high? What happens if I take too much? How do I take this? How long does it last? What strain should I look for? Why does THC have psychoactive effects? Can I give my dog CBD? How do I stay motivated as I try this? How can I work mindfulness into my cannabis routine? How has cannabis been shown to help someone like me?  What gets me high and what doesn't? Why have I been anxious when I've smoked in the past? What the heck are days anyway? (Here's to you, Ohio clients!) The list goes on.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system was first discovered by scientists in the early 1990s by researchers who were working toward identifying scientific reasons why cannabis is bad for you. What they subsequently found is quite the opposite. These scientists uncovered an entire system running throughout the human body that plays a massive role in the regulation of many of the body’s other systems and functions. Named the endocannabinoid system after the cannabis plant that led to its discovery, think of the ECS the same way in which you’d think of the central nervous system or the muscular system, for example. Just like every other important system in the body, the ECS is key to achieving balance or homeostasis.

What has cannabis been shown to help with?

Knowing the very tip of the iceberg in that the ECS provides balance to the body’s other regulators, it makes sense that cannabis has been shown to help with an array of conditions including:

-Sleep

-Mood

-Weight Management

-PTSD

-Chronic Pain

-Stress

-Overall wellness

-Addiction management

-Cancer

What if I am interested in cannabis but not the high?

THC is just one of the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. There are many others and not all of them, like CBD, have psychoactive effects.  A cannabis coach can help you determine what cannabinoids to look for and why. Even those that do not come with the high.

Is smoking cannabis the only way to consume it?

Absolutely not. In fact, smoking is still illegal is some states, including Ohio. From brownies and gummies to sublinguals and tinctures to concentrates and vapes to topicals and transdermals, a cannabis coach can help you understand all the products available plus how to consume them in whichever manner you choose.
